Video Time Manager Privacy Policy

Last updated:

Video Time Manager is a browser extension that measures the time you spend watching YouTube. This policy explains how it handles your data, including the Google user data you grant when signing in with Google.

Data the extension accesses

Watch time is measured locally in your browser - the extension never reads your YouTube watch history from your Google account. Signing in with Google grants access to:

Your basic profile
Name, email address and profile picture.
Its own app-data folder in your Google Drive
It holds only the extension's backups, and no other Drive file is visible to it.
Your birthday and gender
Only if you join VidMatch, the upcoming matchmaking feature.

How that data is used

Profile
Identifying your account in the dashboard.
Drive app-data folder
Backing up your watch-time history to your own Drive.
Birthday
Verifying you're 18 or older before VidMatch is enabled.
Gender
Matching you with compatible people in VidMatch.

This use adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Google user data is never used to train AI or machine-learning models.

Data sharing

Google user data is never sold or shared with advertisers. It's processed only by Firebase (sign-in) and Convex, the backend that stores your account details and VidMatch profile. Your watch-time history never reaches these servers - it stays on your device and in your own Drive. VidMatch chats happen in private Discord channels; linking your Discord account shares your Discord identity with Discord, never your Google user data. VidMatch payments are processed by PayPal - the backend receives only your subscription status, never your payment details. The extension anonymously tracks clicks via Google Analytics; those events contain no Google user data.

Data storage & protection

  • Watch-time data and sign-in tokens live on your device, in the browser's extension storage; tokens are never sent to the extension's servers.
  • All traffic to Google and the backend is encrypted (HTTPS).
  • Backend account data is limited to the minimum listed above and protected by access controls.

Data retention & deletion

Watch-time data
On your device until you uninstall the extension.
Drive backups
Until you remove them from the dashboard or revoke the extension's access.
Backend account data
Until you delete your account from the dashboard.
Server access logs
Deleted automatically after 90 days.

You can revoke the extension's access anytime from your Google Account permissions. For any data or deletion request, email avi6106@gmail.com.
